Me at my first wedding {I’m the one on the left}

I am honored….

to be asked to photograph a couples wedding day where I am documenting a family’s celebration, creating the heirloom images that will be shown of their momentous day for generations to come. It is just so amazing to even be a small part of that!

I have been a photographer since graduating from Columbia College Chicago with my bachelor of arts in photography in 2005, photographing news, editorial, family events, and boudoir portraits. I studied photojournalism in college in Chicago and after graduation moved around a bit living in Ohio and Texas for a few years working as a photojournalist for a couple of daily newspapers. In late 2007 I moved back to Chicago and started freelancing.

My studios history: In 2016 I left Chicago to help care for family in northern Wisconsin and took a break from taking commissioned shoots during that time. In 2018 I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota Twin Cities where I reestablished my wedding & boudoir portrait studio photography business.

The fall of 2022 Grey Tree Studios is expanding to the Chicago wedding photography market once again! I am very excited to be back in my hometown on Chicago’s north side in the Andersonville neighborhood. I will be maintaining operations of select commissions in the Twin Cities as well, along with offering travel through out the Midwest!

My studio promotes inclusive, self empowerment, social responsibility, and environmental friendliness. I have volunteered at animal shelters doing anything from taking photos, being a medical assistant, or cleaning up kitty boxes. I have also volunteered as a photographer at the Red Cross for their teddy bear program after house fires, and teaching kids about photography in an after school program on Chicago’s south side.

{I Like}

listening to NPR or Music when editing photos, tea & coffee, to watch documentary films & programs, to read nonfiction books, love my three fur kids Chloé, Chance, & Stella (all Boston Terriers), hiking, road trips, know a little Spanish & French, to use my passport……

My wedding photos have been published in The Knot, Brides Chicago, and People magazines along with a few wedding blogs.

While living in Texas I had the opportunity to freelance for publications such as The New York Times, USA Today, Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, and the Associated Press. When in Chicago I freelanced for the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times News Group & have won plenty of photography awards too. I can’t wait to hear from and learn more about you!

to all of my wonderful clients over the past 14 years! After much thought and consideration I have decided to take my photography career in a different direction. A family matter I have been dealing with over the past year has led me to deeply reflect on where my career path will take me in the future. From that I have found I no longer have the time to commit to maintaining this website or to take on any additional wedding or boudoir portrait clients in the future.

All of my current clients have had their images delivered to them and my contracts have been fulfilled. If you have any questions please feel free to still reach me at theresa at GreyTreeStudios dot com.
