How would you describe your style?

I can describe my style & approach as eclectic, but there really is no one label to define what I do! Just look at my images. I have a photojournalism background but also love a simple sophisticated clean look with a vivid pop of a colorful element or incorporating an architectural backdrop.

How long have you been photographing weddings? Who will be our photographer?

I (Theresa) will always be your main/lead photographer. I started photographing weddings in 2008 when I began freelancing full time. Prior to that I earned my bachelors of arts degree in photography and started my photography career as a full time staff photographer for a small daily newspaper in Laredo, Texas. In my photography career I have freelanced for regional and national publications such as the New York Times, USA Today, People magazine, Bake magazine, and more!

We love your photojournalist documentary style but would like to have some traditional portraiture. Is this something you do?

I do some traditional portraiture at all of the weddings I photograph. Heirloom family portraits are a must even for the modern bride. Typically we will only spend at the most about 20-30 minutes on any posed family photographs.

What do your wedding photography collections include?

All collections include a USB drive of the culled and edited hi-resolution images from your wedding with personal reprinting rights, an online private proofing gallery with optional print ordering, Theresa as your main photographer, and at least eight hours of coverage. I do also offer a la carte hourly services for smaller weddings or elopements, which include the USB and private online gallery as well. Additional services such as a second photographer, engagement session, albums, fine art prints, or extra time are either offered in higher tiered collections or can be added a la carte.

Do you shoot with film or digital?

I shoot every wedding 100% digital with professional Canon gear, two camera bodies, multiple lenses, on and off camera flashes/lighting, unless film is requested as an additional service. Creatively digital gives limitless options in post processing.

How long does it take to get our photos?  How many images will there be?

Photos will be posted to a private online proofing gallery with print ordering available approximately two to three weeks after your wedding. During the summer/fall it may take a week longer (I will let you know in advance) because this is generally my busy season. No worries though I will most likely share a small blog gallery of the best of the best earlier though. Your USB drive will be sent out about one week after all of your images are posted online and depending on the length and size of your wedding it will include anywhere from 500-1000 images.

Can we print photos from the image files we get?

Of course they are your photos! Your USB will include hi-resolution jpeg non-watermarked files that you can use to print anything for personal use. I just ask if anything is ever to be published Grey Tree Studios receive a photo credit (including social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.) However the copyrights remain with the Studio, therefore no images may be sold without the photographers written consent.

Do you travel to photograph weddings? What are your fees?

I am based in the greater Minneapolis / St. Paul / Twin Cities metropolitan area and I travel all around Minnesota, Wisconsin, and sometimes back to Chicago, Illinois for weddings. For weddings within in the Twin Cities region I do not charge for travel, anything beyond that (60 miles or more) travel fees may apply. Contact me so we can discuss the details of your location and I can give a more personalized estimate. Also I do have my passport at the ready for your destination wedding, please email me and lets discuss all the details if you’d like!

What happens if you’re sick the day of our wedding?

Honestly I will be there no matter what and nothing will prevent me from the commitment I have made to documenting your day. If in the case an act of god (something totally beyond my control) prevents me from being there I have a backup network of other photographers to contact, while there are no guarantees if no one is available in the network you would receive a full refund on all monies paid up to the contracted amount. I understand everything you’ve put into planning this day to celebrate your new life together in front of your family and friends and in almost ten years I have never missed one event.

Everything sounds fantastic! What is your retainer fee and payment requirements?

To hold your wedding date I require a signed contract & a nonrefundable retainer of 30% of the Collection/A la Carte fee with the remaining balance due 30 days before the wedding date. Other services, such as portrait sessions, full payment is due at the time of service. Fine art products including albums or prints ordered outside of a collection require a deposit of 50% with full remaining balance due upon delivery. Since albums & fine art prints are made to order no refunds will be available.
